It invests in the development of the existing port infrastructure and in ship handling. Together with its partners, it invests in a multipurpose, sustainable, safe Port with attractive conditions, which meets the highest requirements of the global market and its clients.

The Nacala Corridor

The Nacala Corridor connects Mozambique to Malawi and Zambia.

The Nacala Corridor aims to support economic growth in the SADC region and facilitate the export of goods from Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia through the Port of Nacala in Mozambique. These countries are linked through railway systems that run from northern Mozambique, through Malawi and connecting Zambia through the Chipata-Mchinji railway section.

It is also connected to the road system in northern Mozambique.


Port of Nacala

It is located in the northern part of Mozambique, south of Bengo Bay, in a wide and sheltered bay, with an entrance channel 60 m deep and 800 m wide. It is the only deep-water port in Mozambique and the largest on the entire East Coast of Africa. Given its privileged position, Nacala can receive ships 24 hours a day, without any draught limitations.

Why the Port of Nacala?

  1. It is a natural deep-water port, with no draft restrictions, or entry and exit of ships;

  2. It is connected to road and rail networks that serve northern Mozambique, Malawi and Zambia;

  3. It has a privileged strategic position and is on the route of major cargoes, such as coal, fruit, various agricultural products and oil;

  4. It is located in a Special Economic Zone known as SEZ.
